Assistant Director – Jackson County Chamber of Commerce

Position Title: Assistant Director

Location: Jackson County, NC

Position Overview

The Assistant Director supports the Executive Director in advancing the Chamber’s mission, strengthening member engagement, and promoting Jackson County as a premier place to live, work, and visit. This role requires strong organizational skills, consistent follow‑through, and the ability to represent the Chamber professionally in the community.

The Assistant Director manages the Chamber’s social media presence, assists with website updates, welcomes visitors to the Visitor Center, and provides operational and event support. The position is designed to enhance the Chamber’s capacity and ensure continuity in daily operations.

Salary Range - $45,000-$55,000

Key Responsibilities

Member & Community Engagement

  • Support member outreach, retention, and engagement efforts.
  • Assist with accurate member information and assist with ChamberMaster updates.
  • Build positive relationships with local businesses, organizations, and partners.

Visitor Center Operations

  • Welcome and assist visitors with information about Jackson County.
  • Maintain a professional, friendly environment that reflects Chamber standards.
  • Restock and monitor visitor kiosks in Sylva and Dillsboro.

Social Media & Website Management

  • Create, manage and schedule social media content across all platforms.
  • Ensure consistent branding, tone, and messaging.
  • Film and edit member spotlight videos and other promotional content.
  • Review the Chamber website regularly and coordinate updates with the Executive Director.

Event Support

  • Assist with planning, logistics, setup, and breakdown for Chamber events.
  • Coordinate with partners, vendors, and venues as needed.
  • Provide post‑event summaries and documentation.

Operational & Administrative Support

  • Support daily office operations and administrative tasks.
  • Maintain organized digital files, photos, and video content.
  • Assist with recurring tourism mailings and other routine tasks.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all communications.
  • Have ability to read and understand financial reports related to the organization.
  • Tasks require the ability to exert medium physical effort in sedentary to medium work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of medium weight (25-50 pounds).  Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a computer or workstation and/or extended periods of time standing and walking.

Teamwork & Accountability

  • Participate in staff meetings prepared with updates.
  • Respond to internal and external communications in a timely manner.
  • Implement feedback promptly and uphold Chamber standards.
  • Contribute to a positive culture with a growth mindset.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required (business, communications, marketing, public relations, or related field preferred).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience managing social media platforms and basic website content.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Canva, and digital communication tools.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow structured processes and meet deadlines.
  • Professional, positive attitude with commitment to community engagement.
