Description
Please join us for a free reception in the Star Atrium of Bardo Arts Center, located directly outside the WCU Fine Art Museum on Oct. 6th from 5-7pm. This reception honors the exhibition Contemporary Clay: A Suvery of Contemporary American Ceramics. The exhibition runs from Oct. 6th - Dec. 16th.
Curated by Heather Mae Erickson, Assistant Professor of Art at WCU, Contemporary Clay examines the expanding and evolving use of clay through the work of more than twenty artists. Exciting shifts throughout the field of ceramics push this limitless material through new processes and concepts. This exhibition aims to show the depth and breadth of ideas concerning clay, ranging from traditional and non-traditional functional objects, rapid prototyping, mixed-media objects and installations, and unfired clay as a final material.
In addition to the exhibition and reception, a symposium on contemporary ceramics will be held October 6-7 in celebration of American Craft Week.
This project is supported by:
N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural & Cultural Resources.
Randall & Susan Ward Endowment for the Ceramic Arts at WCU
George Brown, Dean of the College of Fine and Performing Arts
WCU School of Art and Design
