The second annual Tuck Trout Trot will be held at 9 a.m., on Saturday, May 18 at the Jackson County Greenway in between Sylva and Cullowhee, N.C. This is a self-timed 2.2 mile Fun Run/Walk on the greenway.
Pre-register for the trot online at https://runsignup.com/Race/NC/Cullowhee/TuckTroutTrot. The fee is $18 plus a $2.50 processing fee. You can pre-register for the trot at the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce or the Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department in Cullowhee for a fee of $18. Day of registration will take place at 8 a.m. with the run/walk beginning at 9 a.m. T-shirts will be given to the first 100 registered while supplies last. Day of registration cost is $20, which includes a T-shirt and other swag. Orders after the first 100 runners may take longer to receive a T-shirt.
A portion of net proceeds from the Tuck Trout Trot will benefit Jackson County Parks & Recreation's Outdoor programming, including the annual “Fishing With Kids Day.”
This is a precursor to the third annual Hook, Line and Drinker Festival later that same day on Saturday, May 18 from 3-7 p.m. at the Bridge Park Pavilion in downtown Sylva, N.C. The festival will host two bands, "Another Country" from 3-4:45 p.m., (progressive bluegrass) and Leeda "Lyric" Jones (soul/R&B/Rock) from 5:15-7 p.m. There will be multiple trout fishing vendors, food trucks, craft beer vendors, and children's activities at Saturday afternoon's festival.
Admission to the family friendly festival on Saturday, May 18 is FREE with donations encouraged. Reusable Hook, Line & Drinker souvenir cups will be available for $5. Souvenir cups are required for beer purchases. A portion of net proceeds from souvenir cup sales will benefit Trout Unlimited's “Trout in the Classroom” programming for 2018-2019.
Jackson County is the proud home of the WNC Fly Fishing Trail and the N.C. Trout Capital. The WNC Fly Fishing Trail features 15 hot fishing spots that run from the northern end of the county to the southern end along the beautiful Tuckaseigee River. Jackson County is stocked with more trout than any other county in the state and is home to the state record for the largest rainbow trout ever caught.
