The UNESCO Atlas of the World's Languages in Danger labeled the eastern dialect of Cherokee as severely endangered in 2010. There are roughly 226 fluent speakers of the Cherokee language. Instructors Roger Smoker and Micah Swimmer are working diligently to change that.
This class is an introduction to the Cherokee Syllabary, pronunciation of sounds, and greetings. The class will be 2 nights a week for 3 weeks. Each student will be given a syllabary to take home.
