The Smoky Mountain STEM Collaborative will host an evening telescope viewing from 6-10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, at Bridge Park in Sylva. This free event is part of the worldwide, 2018 Observe the Moon night. Astronomy faculty from Southwestern Community College and Western Carolina University will be present to show the Moon through various telescopes at various magnifications. There will be a short presentation on identifying lunar features and their origins. The Smoky Mountain STEM Collaborative at SCC is funded through a NASA grant and led by Matt Cass. Participants are encouraged to dress warmly as this event will be held outside. In case the evening is completely overcast, this event will be rescheduled for the same time on Sunday evening, Oct. 21. For more information please visit http://moon.nasa.gov/observe.
