From Jackson County, there are two ways to reach Gatlinburg, Tennessee. One
is via U.S. 441 North, which travels over the crest of the Great Smoky
Mountains National Park (and is sometimes unavailable in the
winter). The other route is a roundabout way via I-40, traveling around
the Eastern boundary of the park. Driving time is comparable, because the
roundabout way uses mostly four-lane roads.
