MedWest Health System opens its newest Urgent Care Center on Aug. 15 in Sylva.

Located at 176 Walmart Plaza, MedWest Urgent Care Center-Sylva will provide walk-in examinations six days a week to patients with non-emergency illnesses or injuries. The new Center includes space for eight patient exam rooms, X-ray and full lab services in 3,770 square feet.

The public can get a preview of the new facility during an open house from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 11.

Urgent Care Center-Sylva staff will include two physicians, two physician assistants or nurse practitioners, two medical assistants, two registered nurses, and four radiology and lab technicians.

The new Center is the only Urgent Care in Jackson County and is one of three in the MedWest Health System. Other MedWest Urgent Care locations are at 556 Hazelwood Road in West Waynesville and at 262 Leroy George Dr. in Clyde, which is scheduled to move to a new facility at Interstate 40 Exit 31 in Canton in December.

MedWest Health System provides healthcare for the people of western North Carolina at MedWest-Harris, MedWest-Haywood and MedWest-Swain hospitals, and the outpatient facility MedWest-Franklin. MedWest employs 2,100 people in the mountains and is locally governed by a 14-member board. MedWest is affiliated with Carolinas HealthCare System.
