Great Smoky Mountains Railroad (GSMR) is proud to announce its new 2012 schedule of special events and train excursions. This year is packed full of opportunities to explore the beauty of Western North Carolina by train, and enjoy all the special events that add extra excitement to Bryson City and Dillsboro.
In January and February Saturday trains will operate a 4-hour round trip excursion from Bryson City to Dillsboro, NC with a 1 ½ hour layover. Plenty of opportunities for shopping and dining! We are also proud to announce the first annual Train Ride for Education: A Tribute to Elvis. GSMR is teaming up with Communities in Schools of the Great Smoky Mountains to participate in the upcoming Elvis themed dinner train, with all proceeds going to support Communities in Schools of the Great Smoky Mountains.
Throughout the year we have exciting special events for families and kids of all ages! Start with a visit with The PEANUTS™ gang for the Be My Valentine Charlie Brown Express™. Enjoy old fashioned Valentine’s festivities for kids during the layover destination in Dillsboro on Saturday Feb 11th. Snoopy and friends will be back again April 6 & 7 for the PEANUTS™ Easter Beagle Express! The Lone Ranger™ will be making special appearances on the Tuckasegee River Excursions during the months of June, July and August!
We are excited to introduce a brand new event for 2012! All aboard the Dinosaur Train©! Based off the popular PBS Kids television series, Dinosaur Train© will join us for days of learning and exploring on July 20-22, 27-29 & Aug 4! Don’t miss the 11th Annual RailFest and Mountain Craft Fair on September 15 & 16. October brings our favorite PEANUTS™ gang back for The Pumpkin Patch Express™ on October 6, 7, 12-14, 19-21 & 26-28. THE POLAR EXPRESS will bring back the holiday spirit beginning November 9th and running through December 29th!
As always, our popular First Class and Family First Class options will be back with all of the luxury! Journey through Western North Carolina and enjoy a unique dining experience onboard the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad.
